Dr. Veena Basava is a board-certified, fellowship-trained Interventional Pain physician who specializes in treating a variety of chronic pain conditions.

She has extensive experience in treating chronic pain disorders including musculoskeletal pain, arthritis, headaches, neuropathic pain, sports injuries, cancer pain, sciatica, degenerative conditions of the spine including degenerative disc disease, herniated discs, spinal stenosis, compression fractures and facet joint pain.

Dr. Basava has a special interest in interventional pain management procedures but prescribes to a multi-modal approach inclusive of non-surgical interventional treatments, pharmacotherapy, physical therapy and rehabilitation when indicated.

Dr. Basava is a 2004 medical graduate of the NTR Health Sciences University. She later did her internship in General Surgery at the Exempla Saint Joseph Hospital in Denver, Colorado. Subsequently, she completed her residency and fellowship in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine respectively at the Western Pennsylvania Hospital (Temple University School of Medicine) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Dr. Basava is the recipient of several awards during her medical training and has also published in peer review journals.

Dr. Basava later started the Pain Management clinic at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and served as its Medical Director from 2011 - 2015. She was an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Anesthesiology and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at Baylor College of Medicine.  Over the years she has developed an interest in numerous interventional procedures including placement of spinal cord stimulators / intrathecal drug delivery systems, kyphoplasty, ultrasound guided peripheral nerve blocks, sympathetic blocks, facet neurotomy, radio-frequency ablation for neuropathic pain, stem cell therapy and platelet rich plasma therapy.

Dr. Basava is also a co-founder of American Spine & Pain Centers which serves to promote the field of Interventional Pain Management in the Indian sub-continent.

Dr. Basava is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, Texas Society of Anesthesiologists, American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, and the American Society of Regional Anesthesia.

Dr. Basava is now looking forward to bring her expertise in interventional pain management procedures and management of chronic pain disorders to her own pain center in Houston.
